In response to an appeal from the Association of Asian Confederation of Credit Unions (ACCU), the Co-operative Bank of Vietnam (Co-opBank) has contributed USD 3,000 to ACCU’s Alliance Recovery Fund to support credit unions and communities in Nepal in recovering from the devastating impacts of the historic floods.

According to updates from ACCU and the Nepal Federation of Savings and Credit Cooperative Unions (NEFSCUN), as of early September 2026, the severe flooding in Nepal had claimed more than 1,200 lives, while approximately 4,500–5,000 people remained missing. The disaster also caused extensive damage to Nepal’s network of savings and credit cooperatives (credit unions). NEFSCUN also reported that the offices of more than 35 credit unions were destroyed, leaving thousands of members facing difficulties in accessing cooperative services and sustaining their livelihoods.

In response to the disaster, ACCU, in coordination with NEFSCUN, called on its member organizations across Asia to provide support and resources. The initiative focuses on three key objectives: providing emergency humanitarian relief, restoring the operational infrastructure of affected credit unions, and helping members rebuild their livelihoods. All funds raised will be transferred directly by ACCU to NEFSCUN for implementation based on assessments of needs on the ground.

In response to ACCU’s appeal, Co-opBank promptly contributed USD 3,000 to support NEFSCUN and the affected credit unions in restoring their operations, while also assisting members and local communities in recovering from the impacts of the disaster.

Notably, at the 2026 Asian Credit Union Forum held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, ACCU recognized and announced the member organizations that had contributed to disaster recovery efforts in Nepal, with Co-opBank acknowledged among the contributing organizations. This recognition reflects Co-opBank’s commitment to social responsibility and the spirit of solidarity and mutual support, while further strengthening its presence and reputation within the cooperative finance movement in the region.
