Amid the rapid digital transformation taking place in the banking industry, enhancing knowledge and skills in the application of artificial intelligence (AI) has become increasingly essential. AI contributes to improving data analysis, optimizing business processes, and strengthening risk management capabilities. To equip its personnel with the knowledge and skills needed to apply AI in their professional activities, on October 31, 2026, the Vietnam Cooperative Bank (Co-opBank), in coordination with the Vietnam Banks Association (VNBA), organized a training course entitled “AI Applications in Credit Operations” for managers and professional officers across the entire system. The course was conducted online via the Zoom platform.

The training course attracted more than 1,000 participants, including managers and professional staff from various units at Co-opBank’s Head Office and branches nationwide. The course was delivered by Mr. Le Hoai An – Lecturer at the Faculty of Banking, Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City, an AI expert with extensive experience in providing AI application training to banks and financial institutions in Vietnam.

The program focused on four key topics: applying AI in the appraisal of business plans; strengthening credit analysis and assessment capabilities; integrating AI into business processes in a controlled manner; and applying AI to identify fraudulent credit application documents and related risks.

Through these topics, participants were introduced to methods of leveraging AI to analyze information, assess business plans, and support the examination of loan applications. In particular, the program provided guidance on using AI to verify the completeness, validity, and consistency of application documents, as well as to develop review checklists. These applications help standardize initial document screening and minimize errors in the processing of professional operations.

In addition, the training course addressed the potential applications of AI in data analysis, monitoring, and the early identification of unusual patterns, credit risks, and financial fraud. This helps staff enhance their ability to leverage information and take a more proactive approach to examination, assessment, and risk control.

The application of AI in credit operations is guided by the need to ensure information security and confidentiality, as well as compliance with applicable laws and Co-opBank’s internal business processes. AI serves as a tool to support analysis, review, and greater work efficiency; credit appraisal, assessment, and decision-making must nevertheless remain within the authority and responsibilities of the relevant officers and business units.

The training course reflects Co-opBank leadership’s commitment to fostering innovative thinking, strengthening technological capabilities, and developing a workforce equipped to meet the demands of digital transformation. The program helps raise awareness of AI applications in banking while giving staff opportunities to explore new working methods and improve productivity and the quality of operational processes.

In the coming period, Co-opBank will continue to prioritize training and the enhancement of staff members’ professional expertise and digital skills, while promoting technology adoption in line with requirements for risk management, information security, and operational safety. These efforts represent one of the solutions contributing to the effective implementation of the Scheme on “Restructuring of the People’s Credit Fund System and the Co-operative Bank of Vietnam for 2026–2030, with a Vision to 2045”, towards building a modern, safe, and efficient bank that better meets the needs of PCFs and the wider community.
