The IAT is within the Risk management component of “Strengthening the PCFs Network” (STEP) funded by the Global Affairs Department Canada (GAC), jointly implemented by the International Development Desjardins (DID) and Co-opBank. The objective of this toolkit is supporting the implementation of audit plan, risk evaluation and the audit of PCFs’ operation. The IAT part 1 which included modules on membership, governance, lending and saving were completed and trained for 12 Co-opBank branches and 75 PCFs in the STEP project back in 2019 and 2020.
In 2021, the project experts designed the IAT part 2 with relevant features of procedures for monitoring accounting, information technology, gender equality and environment, then summarized the evaluation scores of audit findings for each type of audit model. Besides that, the project experts have developed a model of internal audit report for PCFs for a consistent report template.
Speaking at the opening of the training course, a representative of Co-opBank management highly spoke of the benefits and features of the IAT for contributing to improve Co-opBank’s capacity of supporting and monitoring the PCFs system.
STEP surveys have shown that, PCFs highly appreciated the IAT and started to apply it into the daily audit activities. It reflects that the IAT has met the requirements of PCFs’ internal audit activities. During the training, the project experts have designed practical exercises for participants to discuss together, study different cases, give warnings and find timely solutions with instructions and make recommendations after risks have been identified.
The trainees can rewatch the training video to revise the content in their own time using the project’s E-learning platform. Currently, the STEP project is conducting field trainings to some PCFs to coach and support them in using the IAT part 1 smoothly and effectively. It is expected that training on IAT part 2 and internal audit report template for PCFs will be launched later this year.
