| The delegation of female bank leaders visited the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and had a meeting with the Vice President at the Presidential Palace on March 8th on the occasion of the 112th anniversary of International Women’s Day and the 1982nd anniversary of the Hai Ba Trung Evolution. |
Attendants in the meeting included Ms. Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, Member of the Party Central Committee, Governor of the SBV; Ms. Ha Thi Nga, Member of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam Women’s Union; Ms. Phan Thi Kim Oanh, Vice Manager of the Office of the President; Ms. Pham Thanh Ha, Deputy Governor of the SBV and leaders of banking institutions, Vietnam Women’s Union, Vietnam Children’s Fund and other 120 female representatives.
Affirming women position of the banking industry
Ms. Le Thi Quyen – Standing Deputy Chairman of the SBV Union provided a report on the contribution of female bank officers and affirmed that the success of the banking industry could not have been realized without their significant devotion. They have successfully untapped their full potentials and strived to complete the assigned tasks, playing a vital role in banking operations and helping Vietnam banks to be more confident in their integration with regional and international peers.
Fully aware of the important contribution by female bank officers, the SBV and other bank leaders have provided full support for them in capacity and skills development.
Leaders of banking authorities, with the important position of banking female officers, always created favorable conditions for the women to improve and contribute to the Banking development.

Ms. Vo Thi Anh Xuan – Vietnam’s Vice President praised the achieved results of banking industry women officers in recent times. In particular, female employees currently account for about 60% of the total bank workforce, in which more than 24.13% are departmental leaders or equivalent and above. Another astonishing factor is that the SBV has recently appointed the first female Governor. This is the pride of banking women officers and serves as momentum for them to develop themselves and complete the assigned missions.
In face of recent challenges, the female officers have promoted their traditional qualities to overcome many difficulties and contributed to the banking industry’s overall achievement in both pandemic combat and socio-economic development.

Banking industry has faced with “dual pressure” in supporting the economy and maintaining the non-performing loans rate under control. Besides that, banking industry has suffered from significant impacts from the global economy and currency policies. However, thanks to the efforts of the whole banking system, the inflation was curbed under control and the stability of the economy was maintained.

Promoting adaptive capacity to new context
In the current context, Vietnam has been in the “new normal” due to Covid 19 circumstances. Ms. Vo Thi Anh Xuan sympathized with the difficulties the banking workforce especially women since children and women were the most vulnerable in this pandemic.
However, Ms. Vo Thi Anh Xuan believed that banking female officers would find creative solutions to overcome the challenges and adapt to the new context as the ability to adapt would be vital a significant requirement particularly in the banking sector as it is subject to constant changes.

Besides that, banking female workers would need to learn more skills especially in digital transformation and the 4th industrial revolution. In addition, they should further promote good qualities of Vietnamese women as well as bankers’ ethics and wisdom.
Furthermore, it is necessary to continue to social activities to support and help those disadvantaged and vulnerable, especially women and children.
Ms. Vo Thi Anh Xuan emphasized the importance of training and education for female officers, and the development rate should be proportional to the number of female staff.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong – the governor of the SBV, emphasized that in 2021, banking industry successfully completed the assigned tasks with a significant contribution by banking female staff. Besides professional tasks, the banking industry initiated many social activities, especially aimed at low income women and disadvantaged children.
The Banking Trade Union’s activities were also centered on women with 70% operating expenses were dedicated to help them maintain a work life balance. Especially, in the context of the 4th industrial and digital transformation, the Trade Union has particularly focused on education activities to develop the women officers’ skills and knowledge.

In a rapid- changing context of the global economy, Vietnam is also under recovery. The Governor of the SBV affirmed that banking industry would perform successfully professional tasks, contributed to macroeconomic stability, economic development and actively participated in the process of economic restructuring and recovery program.
In addition, the banking industry would continue to be an active pioneer in digital transformation. It also actively implemented the national financial inclusion strategic program to 2025, with a vision to 2030 in which women is a priority. It would also promote more women training and development programs.
Within the meeting, banking female officers presented donations of VND 300 million to the Vietnam Children’s Fund for Covid-19 orphans, VND 500 million for the Vietnam Women’s Union in Tuyen Quang province and presented VND 100 million for the national women’s football team for successfully qualifying to the World Cup 2023 finals.
